In Search of Flamingos -- II

It is interesting how Tides work. The place that I went in the morning was no more shallow in the evening, rather had too much water which drove Flamingos away to a different part of the lake where the amount of water was less.

The boatman was too particular about the timings in the evening because of the high tides. I could feel that the water was rougher than in the morning because of which capturing the moments could be challenging. At the end, I could barely take handful photographs only.

Session II :-- Boat safari at 4:00 PM IST.

Osprey in action.
This session was mostly into Oystercatchers. They were a bit social as our boat was almost near to its territory but they never took off. Gave us ample time to watch them closely and study their behaviour.

Pecking an oyster.

Posing as if they are showpieces.
Caspian Tern.
We had to race against the time to take a glimpse of Flamingos flying back to their settlements at dusk. Well, the colour of the sky had turned orange and the sun was going down slowly. Now was the time for all the birds to go home.

Breathtaking views at the lake as the birds settle down for the night.

Flock of Plovers.
Faint image of a Whimbrel.
I concluded the trip with lot of lifers for the day. It was a satisfying trip after a long wait. Like everyone say Pulicat is indeed a hometown for various species of birds which one must not miss going there.

Until next time, happy birding..!
