Elusive Leopards.

Shy, elusive, charismatic, stealth are known characteristics of a Leopard. Spots all over the body gives an appalling fancy look. They primarily inhabit in tropical rain forests, dry deciduous forests. temperate forests and often seen in the fringes of cities and villages.

Like anywhere, human-leopard conflict is quite evidently found in Karnataka too. As Nagarahole lies between Coorg, Hunsur and HD Kote reported sightings and appearances of Leopards are high.
They cannot outsmart Royal Bengal Tigers, hence are not commonly found in forests which has more number of tigers.
For easy prey, leopards get inside village limits. Consequences are bad in both ways.

It was an unexpected visit to one of my favorite place --Nagarahole National Park, aka Kabini. Fondly known as leopard country, this forest perhaps has the highest population of Asiatic leopards found anywhere in India and offers an amazing wildlife experience.

A perfectly camouflaged Leopard.
We set off to evening safari with the hopes of finding royal cats. Two hours of  extensive search did not yield anything. The forest was calm as if it was a good student. JLR vehicles roamed from one zone to another in search of action. Then comes a call from Hanuman Langur...! It's continuous calls alerted the whole forest. We drove in the direction from where the call came and stopped.

Summer had begun, the vegetation was dry. Thickets of forests had turned from green to dark shades of brown. There was hardly any movement in the bushes. Dusk was falling quickly and the light was dull, we finally found the elusive cat..! It was extremely difficult for us to spot the cat as it blended with the color of dry bushes.
The Elusive leopard.
The following day too was an action packed journey amidst dry jungle. We entered Mastigudi range without a naturalist. We spotted a prowling leopard hardly few yards away from the range entry gate..! It was behind a fallen tree awaiting for a chance to pound on a herd of deer. But the noise made by our jeep engine distracted the herd, the leopard went inside the bushes.

All I could capture was it's back..!
We guessed this cat would emerge out of the bush through a different exit. Hence, our driver took us to that location and halted. But the same cat had come out through a different direction and was trying to hunt the same herd of deer which apparently had dispersed sometime back. Again, the attempt was in-vain.

It had become difficult for us to keep track of this prowling cat. The phantom was in desperate need of prey ! it evaded us completely. After several rounds of intense search we finally found him on top of a tree, possibly trying to sleep. It was a WOW moment..!

The Phantom on tree.

Apart from leopards the forest offered us other attractive wildlife moments. Jackal with puppies, fight of brother elephants, a male peacock dancing were the highlights.

Benefits of Balanced Diet.

According to the definition, a balanced diet is one that contains proper proportions of nutrients necessary to maintain a healthy life. But what actually happens if we forget to maintain it is unimaginable.

Our stomach accepts everything that we give. It cannot identify which is good for body and which is not. Hence, we need to ensure the daily food what we feed-on is nutritious. There is a difference between good eating and good diet. Healthy eating means consuming healthy food such as fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, green leaves, pulses, cereals to maintain a good life.

A balanced diet comprises of dietary ethics for losing/gaining body weight. This type of diet focuses on breaking fat and cholesterol, regulating sugar level, maintaining consistent blood pressure in a human body. Needless to say, this will definitely help in increasing immunity against harmful infections.

People who work in IT industry have an unbalanced diet. Am one amongst many who tend to skip meal due to hectic work. Hence, in order to maintain healthy lifestyle IT people practice below types of diets.

1: Healthy Diet: Right time to eat, right time to bed.
The concept of early to bed and early to rise with proper three meal course is practiced in this diet. Before leaving to the work place, first meal of the day would consist of breakfast with a glass of milk. After 3-4 hours comes lunch, a whole stomach filling lunch rejuvenates the body and provides energy to work for next few hours. Later at night, a light dinner with a glass of milk would suffice. Here the body intakes in regular interval, a long gap is not maintained. Accumulation of gas inside the body is less. The diet must include fibrous contents, fresh vegetables, vitamins and proteins. Many of them consume fresh fruit juice which lubricates the body and keeps it light.

2: Crash Diet: Cut down what you eat.
Obesity is a serious disorder and is commonly found now-a-days in the society. The cause is because of the sober lifestyle that includes improper eating schedule, no body exercise and eating high cholesterol food. So in order to control obesity people often choose crash diet. The diet plan includes consuming raw vegetables like cucumber, carrots, radish, spinach, etc. It also includes hard food like oil less wheat rotis, brown rice, dal and other low calorie items. As the main intention is to reduce body weight smoothies, natural ice cream and other high calorie food is completely avoided.
Many diet experts insists to practice Yoga and similar exercises along with balanced diet to avoid any harmful diseases. They also insist to consume dry fruits with honey. Honey is an alternative for sugar. Diabetic patients are advised to consume honey as they find it difficult to resist sugar.

You may refer to Dabur web page for a unique Dabur Honey Diet. It’s all about benefits of consuming honey, how honey helps in balanced diet and various interesting aspects of honey. The web page also provides relevant information about balanced diet. Enjoy the sweetness of honey.

It's not just a game, it's a religion.!

That's right!! Cricket is not just a game, it’s a religion in our country. I grew up watching and playing cricket. Those were the days when television did not had enough privileges to make the game look even colorful. My father introduced me to this wonderful game when I was a kid. He taught me the rules and ethics of the game. My neighborhood was filled with passionate cricket lovers. Soon after school, we used to jump into streets with stumps, bats making loud noise.

World cup matches were interesting and if it’s between India and Pakistan things would be nail biting. Cricket haters too would stick to their seat to experience this madness. The first world cup match I saw was India vs Pakistan in the year 1992. My father woke me up at 5 in the morning, said this is one of the important match for us. So was it, fight between Kiran More and Javed miandad, and that thrilling victory recorded in my memory.

Back then, cable connections was not reachable to every home and mine was not an exception. I had to go to my granny’s place to watch cricket. I bunked my school by giving lame reasons whenever there were finest Indian matches. I could not resist. My father also would come home early from his work to witness the action.

In 1996, India hosted the Wills World cup. Bangalore hosted an evergreen competition, between Indian and Pakistan. The ground was heavily crowded. It was a crucial quarterfinal match. We ought to win, because it’s against Pakistan. Indian batsmen gave a strong score to our opponents. I stuck to my chair at my granny’s praying some miracle would happen. And yes..! The world witnessed an unbeatable sledging between Aamir Sohail and Venkatesh Prasad. Our bowler kept his cool and bowled out arrogant opponent brilliantly. We were thrilled for more than one reason, it was not just a victory against one team. It was a victory against every individual who taunted us when we lost league matches.

An outstanding game of cricket was played at Sharjah between India and Australia at Sharjah where Little Master thrashed Aussies like anything to achieve an unbelievable victory. People came out of their houses to celebrate in grand style. It was something patriotic for all of us..!
I remember how I sneak out of my room, muted the TV and watched Yuvraj singh hit 6 sixers in 6 balls..! It was something special, proud and historic moment for Indians.

I was one of them who grew up watching many of these inspirational matches. This induced more about cricket inside me. I continue to practice cricket, but once in a week. When I look back I have played amazing game of cricket at my young age.

Things have changed now. I cannot sit and watch each and every ball like earlier days, thanks to my busy work and travel. As a hard-core cricket fan, I do not wish to miss any action. So with all the technology it’s still possible to enjoy the game of cricket. I use UC-Browser (http://www.ucweb.com/), and UC Cricket on my mobile for regular updates about ongoing matches. It is faster and has a space dedicated for every cricket fan, connecting them to the match wherever they are.
